Shoppers at Myer stores Australia wide have rushed to tell of Myer’s seven-storey-high banner apostrophe error via twitter and social networks.
The error that came to light Tuesday morning was tweeted about for the big bosses of Myer even knew about the error.
A popular tweet yesterday that tells of Myer’s mistake is best summed up as, “It’s ok Myer, It’s only a 7 storey poster, checking it probably isn’t important http://t.co/1lkr3aTo“.
The department stores usage of the apostrophe wasn’t necessary in the following statement, “Early Bird Get’s the right size”.
Instead the apostrophe wasn’t required due to the word “Get’s” not being a contraction, where one letter is removed like, it’s is a contraction of it is or it has.
The WritingBar.com has an easy guide to apostrophes that state they say can send fear into the most confident of writers.
“Just when you think you know exactly where they should go, you are picked up by a proofreader for the errant use of an apostrophe and doubt creeps in,” said a statement on the WritingBar.com.
Myer has apologised to their customers for the advertising error that was rolled out across all stores around Australia.
“We offered our sincerest apologies for this error to customers who took the time to raise this with us,” a Myer Spokesman told the Herald Sun.
