Hearing 1.5 million people gasp in awe on NYE

The Sydney New Year’s Eve 2011 fireworks is made up of aroun 7000 tonnes of pyrotechnic explosives which are used to make Sydney a dream destination every NYE in Australia.

First time producer, Aneurin Coffey (pronounced An-ai-rin) has the pleasure of making sure everyone has their “gasp” on NYE.

“I have a good knowledge of what the event is and what it takes to do it, so it’s nice to step into a role and be able to put a bit more of my own mark on it, rather than just delivering someone else’s vision, so that’s rather nice,” said Mr Coffey.

The Sydney New Year’s Eve celebrations requires a team of around 60 people but during the night there is around 1000 who are working for the event.

“Over 1000 people will be accredited for the event, including lighting and sound contractors, pyro-technicians, stage managers, event managers, artists, the people who clear the rubbish and clean the toilets all around the city and the national and international broadcast people – there are 200 involved in the broadcast alone,” said Mr Coffey.

At NYE this year you’ll have many things to keep excited about including the Sydney New Year’s Eve 2011 Anthem.

“Which is a really new and exciting part of the event,” he said.
