Hundreds of motorcycle riders have taken part in an annual Toy Run held in Townsville that aims to provide gifts to disadvantaged families.
The annual toy run has the support of the Salvation Army and is one of Australia’s largest charity rides.
MRA Toy Run Co-ordinator, Karina Prince said the response this year has been amazing.
“The response to this year’s event has been overwhelming, with more than $10,000 in raffle prizes being donated by local and national businesses,” said Mrs Prince.
“In addition, we’ve had thousands of dollars worth of direct donations from groups such as the Rotary Club of Thuringowa Central. They alone have donated $1,200 worth of toys to the cause again this year.”
Motorcycle rider Mariella Greselin said she has participated in the ride for more than four years and enjoys the company of her pooch bruser.
“I think it’s just as important that people get in and sponsor things like this,” said Ms Greselin.
“It makes people more aware about motorbikes as well. We suffer allot with people neglecting the fact that were on the road.”
The toy run holds a 31 year history in North Queensland.
